West Ham endured a dreadful start to the 2025/26 season, falling to a limp 3-0 defeat against newly promoted Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
The Hammers looked toothless in attack and all over the place defensively – an ominous sign of things to come unless Graham Potter can act quickly.
Fortunately, there’s still a few weeks left of the transfer window for Potter to bolster his squad and turn things around.
But just as important as new arrivals is moving players on to free up space and raise funds – and one of those exits is now in motion.
Alvarez in Fenerbahce Talks

According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Turkish giants Fenerbahçe have now opened talks with West Ham over the signing of midfielder Edson Álvarez – with José Mourinho personally pushing for the move.
Romano reports that initial contacts have taken place, while two more European clubs have also made approaches after Ajax expressed interest earlier in the window.
Álvarez, who earns £100,000 per week at the London Stadium, was left on the bench as an unused substitute in the Sunderland defeat and is now considering his options.
Once hailed as “excellent” by ex-Premier League striker turned pundit Troy Deeney, the Mexico international initially impressed after arriving in a £35m deal from Ajax back in 2023.
But his form has dropped off dramatically since then, with errors and inconsistency leaving him a shadow of the player West Ham thought they were buying.
If the Hammers can recover even part of their investment and shift Álvarez’s hefty wages before the window closes, it would be a major boost for Potter’s rebuild – and clear the path for fresh blood in midfield.
