West Ham are believed to be closing in on the signing of Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer, according to a fresh transfer rumour.

An exciting summer at the London Stadium continues, with Nice centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo reportedly on the verge of becoming a Hammers player.

The 24-year-old would increase competition at the heart of Julen Lopetegui’s defence, and he could even come straight in as a guaranteed starter.

Now, it looks as though another good piece of business could also be on the cards for West Ham.

That’s according to Football Insider, who claim that Aaron Wan-Bissaka is edging closer to sealing a move to the east Londoners from United.

The report states that West Ham are “close to agreeing a deal” for the right-back, with talks “ongoing between the Premier League clubs as they try to negotiate an agreement”. It also adds that “their valuations of the 26-year-old are not miles apart, and they could meet in the middle.”

It certainly feels more likely that Wan-Bissaka will become a West Ham player than stay at United this summer, and he could be a wise addition to Lopetegui’s increasingly impressive squad.

The 26-year-old may not have set the world alight at Old Trafford, particularly in an attacking sense from right-back – he has only scored twice in 190 appearances for the Hammers – but he is renowned for his one-on-one defensive work.

Tottenham star James Maddison has described that part of Wan-Bissaka’s game as “ridiculously good”, and while he may not be seen as a key man for one of the world’s biggest clubs, West Ham could be the perfect level for him.

He could provide defensive expertise, forging a strong understanding with whichever centre-back he plays alongside, whether it be Todibo, Max Kilman or someone else, and given his age, he could be an important player for the next five or six years.

It feels like the right time for Wan-Bissaka to enjoy a new challenge, and this is also an ideal period to be joining an exciting project in east London, as Lopetegui looks to work the sort of magic that has seen him win the Europa League in the past.
