West Ham and Valencia have been going toe to toe for Maxi Gómez, but it seems as though the Spanish side are beginning to lose patience with the Celta Vigo striker.

During the press conference which was used to unveil Jasper Cillessen, Spanish outlet AS report Anil Murthy, the Valencia president, as saying: “We want players who are fully convinced of being in our project and who grow with us (…) We want committed people like Cillessen, who wanted to be part of the Valencia family and since he learned of the interest, did not listen to other proposals.”

While Gómez was not directly mentioned, it seems pretty clear that he was the intended target of this comment – indicating that Valencia could move on soon if the Uruguayan does not make up his mind.

Valencia have made it clear that they will not wait forever and while Gómez is still their main target, they have other options, according to AS.

This could either be a tactic to force the player’s hand in an attempt to make him choose Valencia, or the biggest indication yet that the La Liga side could eventually drop out of the race to sign Gómez – leaving West Ham to take their man.

Like most developments in this story, this is not definitive, but it will certainly be of intrigue to those associated with the Hammers.
