West Ham eased into the next round of the FA Cup with a 2–1 win over QPR on Sunday, offering a rare moment of positivity in an otherwise difficult season.
It was a performance that included several encouraging signs, not least from a player whose future has been the subject of growing speculation.
Taty Castellanos netted his first goal in claret and blue, while Crysencio Summerville caught the eye with a goal and an assist. Nuno Espírito Santo largely kept faith with his regular side, but one notable change saw Mads Hermansen restored to the starting XI for the first time since September.
The Danish goalkeeper has endured a rocky introduction to life at the London Stadium following his £20 million move from Leicester in the summer.
After a series of tough outings earlier in the campaign, Hermansen had slipped out of favour, prompting talk that he could be on the move when the January window opened. Against QPR, however, he was given a chance — and delivered a steady, assured display.
That appearance seemed to carry added significance, especially given what followed after the final whistle.
Hermansen “Ready” for West Ham Challenge

Hermansen arrived in east London with a strong reputation after an excellent season with Leicester, and expectations were understandably high.
While his Premier League form has fallen well short of that standard, his message following the QPR win hinted at a player determined to fight for his place rather than seek an exit.
Posting on his official X account, Hermansen wrote: “Amazing to be out there playing again. Thanks for your support. Ready for the next round.”
Those words seem to pour cold water on suggestions of an imminent January departure, even if his long-term future remains uncertain.
While Hermansen did little wrong against QPR and looked far more assured, the bigger picture suggests the Hammers may still need to address the position — if not this month, then almost certainly in the summer.
For now, though, Hermansen’s message is clear: he’s still here, and he’s ready for what comes next.
