West Ham are considering a move for Newcastle right-back Daryl Janmaat, and Magpies boss Rafa Benitiez has admitted he is open to offer for the Netherlands international.

Goal.com have reported that West Ham are among three clubs lining up moves for the right-back, while MailOnline have previously claimed that Newcastle want at least £10m for him.

And today The Evening Chronicle’s chief football writer Lee Ryder took to Twitter to quote Benitez on Janmaat’s situation at the club, with the Spaniard admitting he’s willing to listen to offers for the defender…

Slaven Bilic has struggled to find a solid solution to his right-back woes since Carl Jenkinson fluffed his lines too many times upon rejoining on loan last summer.

Since then Bilic has insisted on playing right winger Michail Antonio in that position, which was beginning to infuriate fans – and Antonio himself – who had already seen the former Nottingham Forest man impress in a more attacking role and struggle defensively when played out of position.

Antonio returned to right-wing duties against Bournemouth on Sunday, scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win, while Sam Byram was preferred at right-back.

Byram has impressed over the last one-and-a-half games in which he has featured at right-back, but Bilic is perhaps hoping to bring in someone more experienced that add strength to his back line.

Janmaat, 27, made 69 Premier League appearances for the Magpies during his two seasons at St. James’ Park, scoring three goals.

Transfermarkt.com value Janmaat at just £6.38m, and the defender has four years remaining on his Newcastle contract.
