West Ham’s busy summer spree shows no signs of stopping, as Manuel Pellegrini’s side find themselves linked with the services of another attacker.
Portuguese outlet O Jogo state the Hammers have outbid Benfica in the market for Brazil ace Bernard, who is available for a free transfer after leaving Shakhtar Donetsk.
The creative midfielder had spent five years in Ukraine but is now seeking new employers and the 25-year-old has been identified as the next attacking ace wanted by Pellegrini.
West Ham have already secured major deals for Andriy Yarmolenko and Felipe Anderson but want to improve the depth within the squad, with the reports stating a significant offer has been presented to Bernard.
It has been claimed that West Ham have offered €7m as a signing bonus for Bernard, as well as wages totalling €4m-a-year – exceeding the offer on the table from Benfica.
However, the Portuguese side can offer European football that the Hammers cannot.
