West Ham have ended up in South America as we continue the long, frustrating hunt for a striker this summer.

After being linked with a whole host of top strikers across Europe, ESPN claim we’re now keeping a close eye on Ecuador striker Jaime Ayovi of Argentine club Godoy Cruz.

The 28-year-old has contributed six goals and two assists in 16 games in Argentina’s Primera Division this term and the report claims Slaven Bilic has been an admirer of the striker for some time now.

He is Enner Valencia’s Ecuadorian striker partner at international level and he could be seen as the perfect player to come in and get the best out of Valencia, who has largely disappointed since signing for the club two seasons ago.

Given that he has never played in Europe it’s fair to assume signing Ayovi would be a huge gamble, even more so than appointing an untried Slaven Bilic as manager last season.

However, as the hunt for a striker continues in vein, you can’t blame the club for branching out a little.
