After the failed experiments that were Julen Lopetegui and Graham Potter, head coach Nuno Espirito Santo is trying his hardest to turn around West Ham United’s form and put us back on a much needed upward curve.

Following his arrival at the London Stadium back at the end of September, the 51 year old former Portuguese B International goalkeeper has had a very mixed time on the pitch. 17 games across all competitions have resulted in just three wins and five draws, but it is very fair to say that despite the ongoing frustrations and disappointments, for those Hammers fans who use Hesgoal TV for their broadcast and streaming needs, they are at least appreciative of what he is trying to do on a playing style front.

Nuno has already begun to wheel and deal in the January transfer window in an effort to improve the calibre of the options available to us and we have already seen the New Year arrivals of Pablo and Valentin Castellanos, whilst books have been somewhat balanced by the sale of Luis Guilherme (albeit a significant loss after just 18 months at the club.)

Given we are sat in 18th spot in the Premier League table and in the relegation zone adrift of safety by a full seven points, two freshly faced incomings are not going to be enough in the second half of the season so we can well expect a few more departures, and hopefully a few more arrivals to help change the dressing room atmosphere and give us a lift and some kind of spark.

With a league worst 43 goals conceded, clearly the goalkeeping and defensive departments are of key interest to fans and the speculation rumour mill now has us linked with a potential interest in Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen.

The 23 year old former Villarreal stopper arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2024 and the vast majority of his 28 starting appearances have come in European competitions, and it has long been known that the one capped Danish international has wanted to move on in order to bolster not only his playing career but also his international prospects.

He had recently become favoured by Enzo Maresca, but with his departure and the arrival of Liam Rosenior his immediate future is now more uncertain, and it seems that he is already doubling down on pushing for a move.

Whilst we are mentioned as having an interest alongside the likes of Turkish side Besiktas, it is fair to say that in terms of concrete information the speculation so far is very lacking. If anything, the claims suggest that at best we have simply made a tentative enquiry to Chelsea to find out whether or not he is available so we could look at our options – but with no real confirmation that if the answer was yes that we would actually follow up with an offer.

Making this one less likely, even though fans would like to see an alternative to Alphonse Areola and with Mads Hermansen not really making an impact, is that whilst Jorgensen featured in Rosenior’s first game in charge, Robert Sanchez was given the nod for his second game and he was poor and made numerous mistakes in their defeat to Arsenal.

It makes it less likely that Chelsea would be willing sellers even if we made an offer. So we could well be wise to look elsewhere and quickly in the days that remain in the month.
