It’s been a turbulent start to the season for West Ham United.

Sitting 19th in the Premier League table, Nuno Espírito Santo’s side have endured a torrid run of form at both ends of the pitch — conceding more goals than any other team while struggling badly to find the net.

With Callum Wilson managing just one league goal, Niclas Füllkrug yet to open his account, and Michail Antonio having departed in the summer, reinforcements in attack are desperately needed.

And now, it appears one high-profile Premier League forward could emerge as a potential solution.

According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, speaking on the Inside Track podcast, West Ham could make a move for Joshua Zirkzee in January if Manchester United decide to sell the Dutch striker.

O’Rourke believes the 23-year-old, who has struggled for minutes under new United boss Ruben Amorim, could push for a transfer if his situation doesn’t improve soon.

“If there is a green light for Zirkzee to leave Man United in January, I’m sure a lot of clubs will be in for him,” O’Rourke said.

“Obviously, the player himself is frustrated at his lack of opportunities this season, and he could push for a move away in January if those minutes don’t improve.”

The reporter went on to explain why a move to the London Stadium could make sense for both parties.

“I think if West Ham are still in relegation trouble come January, bringing in a new striker will be key to their hopes of staying up,” he added.

Zirkzee, who joined United from Bologna in the summer, has featured just three times in all competitions and is yet to score. His combination of physical presence and technical ability could be exactly what West Ham’s misfiring frontline needs.

For now, much will depend on whether United are willing to sanction an exit mid-season — but with Nuno desperate for goals, expect West Ham to be ready to act quickly should the opportunity arise.
