West Ham’s season has been a rollercoaster, with the club fighting near the bottom of the Premier League despite recent back-to-back wins under Nuno Espírito Santo.

The Hammers are expected to be busy in January, seeking reinforcements across the squad — from strikers like Lucas Stassin to wide men such as Adama Traoré.

One name that has been repeatedly linked with a move to East London is Arsenal’s promising left-back Myles Lewis-Skelly, who is yet to secure consistent first-team minutes at the Emirates.

Now, the Hammers have been given an update in their reported pursuit of the England international.

According to former Manchester United and Blackburn scout Mick Brown, Arsenal have no plans to allow Lewis-Skelly to depart in the January transfer window despite interest from West Ham.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Brown stressed that the 19-year-old will need to continue competing for his place in Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Lewis-Skelly — described as “brilliant” by pundit Jamie O’Hara — has featured sporadically this season, backing up Riccardo Calafiori, with just four starts in 12 appearances across all competitions.

Brown explained that Arsenal are focused on maintaining depth as they aim to compete for silverware on multiple fronts.

He said: “I would be very, very surprised if he left Arsenal. If they get any injuries at left-back, he will be straight back into the starting XI, and that’s what the manager wants, to have two players in every position.”

On the speculation linking Lewis-Skelly with a move to gain England minutes, Brown added: “I can understand why there’s been the speculation about him because of the England situation, but from Arsenal’s point of view, there’s no way they’ll let him go.”

For West Ham, this represents a setback in their pursuit of the “brilliant” youngster, meaning Nuno may need to explore alternative options to strengthen the squad during the January window.
