Manuel Pellegrini is wasting no time after his appointment at West Ham, as he’s actively pushing for defensive reinforcements in the transfer market.

The Hammers are edging ever closer to securing the services of Barcelona’s Marlon Santos, who has spent the last two seasons on-loan with OGC Nice, but Pellegrini is seemingly eyeing further recruits at the back.

Sky Sports reports that West Ham are also keen on the services of Genoa defender Armando Izzo, who has impressed in Serie A this season.

The 26-year-old is contracted with Genoa until 2022 but his performances have not gone unnoticed, as a number of Italian sides are said to be keen on his signature.

Izzo, who started his career at Napoli, was called up to Italy’s national side last year but is yet to make his debut for the European giants – who are one of the biggest nations to fail to qualify for this summer’s World Cup.

TransferMarkt values the defender at £5.4m, so he could prove to be a bargain for the Hammers.
