West Ham are interested in completing the signing of Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet in the summer transfer window, a fresh update from Spain has claimed.

The Hammers could look to improve their defensive options ahead of next season, with Julen Lopetegui taking charge and looking to make an immediate impact after coming in for David Moyes.

Kurt Zouma could move on after three seasons at the London Stadium, highlighting the need for reinforcements, and it looks as though Lenglet has emerged as an option to bring in during the coming weeks and month.

According to Spanish publication Sport [via Sport Witness], West Ham are one of the clubs keen on signing the Frenchman this summer.

Aston Villa and Borussia Dortmund are also mentioned as potential suitors to acquire Lenglet’s signature, having rejected the chance to move to the Saudi Pro League.

Lenglet could represent an excellent option for West Ham under Lopetegui, having proven himself as a player with so much pedigree down the years.

The 28-year-old has played for both Barcelona and Sevilla, winning one La Liga title with the former, and he has also enjoyed a stint on loan at Tottenham, meaning he has picked up Premier League experience.

Lenglet has made 40 appearances in the competition, and Spurs insider John Wenham hailed him back in 2022, saying:

“I have been really thinking about this, I want to give credit to Clement Lenglet. It was his first North London derby. I don’t watch every weekend but when I do, or I see the highlights, Bukayo Saka is always their most influential attacking player.

“I just wanted to give credit because I think his performance went a little bit under the radar. I have been impressed with him so far. The fact he has instantly come in for Ben Davies and we don’t look any weaker, that is a huge credit to him really.”

At 28, Lenglet is at peak age to come in and be a key man from the off at West Ham, and there is no reason why that should change until he is in and around his mid 30s.
