West Ham’s season may be showing small signs of recovery under Nuno Espírito Santo, but the need for January reinforcements is undeniable.

With the Hammers still leaking goals, lacking depth, and scrambling for consistency, the winter window is expected to be a busy one.

A new striker remains the priority, with the likes of Ivan Toney, Franculino Dju and Troy Parrott all linked.

Out wide, Adama Traoré and Manor Solomon are being monitored, while defensive targets such as Tiago Gabriel and Christos Mandas have also been mentioned.

Now, another name has reportedly joined West Ham’s growing shortlist.

According to tz.de, West Ham are one of several clubs “showing interest” in Bayern Munich defender Sacha Boey ahead of the January transfer window.

The report claims Boey is considering leaving Bavaria, and a number of clubs are waiting to pounce once the market opens.

Alongside West Ham, Juventus, Galatasaray, Monaco, Lyon, Crystal Palace and Sevilla are all credited with an interest, with teams in England, France and Spain thought to be “realistic destinations” for the Frenchman.

On first glance, Boey’s availability seems surprising.

After early fitness problems, the 25-year-old has worked his way into Vincent Kompany’s plans, starting five of Bayern’s ten Bundesliga games and featuring in the Champions League.

His standout performance came against Chelsea, which earned strong praise from Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund, who described him as “very good”, adding: “He played a top game, and I’m extremely happy for him.”

Given that glowing assessment — and the calibre of clubs said to be circling — it feels unlikely Boey would swap Bayern and top-level European football for a relegation battle at the London Stadium.

Still, with West Ham in the market for a right-back and monitoring multiple options, it’s no surprise his name has surfaced.
