West Ham have plenty of work planned for the summer ahead but one of the first pieces of business could see a familiar face return to the club.

Claret & Hugh state that West Ham are in discussions with Inter Milan regarding the services of Joao Mario, who spent the second-half of the season on-loan at the London Stadium.

The Portugal international is preparing for the World Cup in Russia but it seems he has become surplus to requirements at the San Siro, as Inter have handed new signing Lautaro Martinez his number ten jersey.

Mario’s future has attracted plenty of speculation in recent months and, with it clear that he will be on the move, West Ham are said to have made approaches.

However, a final decision rests solely on new manager Manuel Pellegrini and the fact that Inter are looking to get around £26m for the 25-year-old could throw a spanner in the works.
