As Graham Potter gears up for his first full season at the helm, one thing is painfully obvious — West Ham’s frontline needs serious attention.

The Hammers are crying out for reinforcements up top, especially after the departure of Mohammed Kudus to Spurs, a move that stung not just for the destination, but for the loss of one of the few players capable of unlocking a game with a single moment of brilliance.

The attacking situation is now looking increasingly threadbare. Evan Ferguson has exited quietly after a forgettable loan, Michail Antonio is entering the twilight of his career — compounded by the aftermath of his car crash — and Niclas Füllkrug never came close to living up to expectations. At present, Jarrod Bowen stands alone as the club’s only reliable attacking threat.

If West Ham are serious about progressing under Potter, attacking reinforcements are no longer optional — they’re essential. And the club may be close to landing an experienced Premier League name to fill the void.

Accoridng to various reports, per FourFourTwo, West Ham are in discussions to sign former Newcastle striker Callum Wilson, with the 33-year-old currently available on a free transfer.

Wilson recently ended a five-year stint at St. James’ Park, having turned down a heavily incentive-based contract — believed to be a pay-as-you-play offer — in search of more consistent minutes and security elsewhere.

He made 18 league appearances for the Magpies last season but failed to find the net, as Alexander Isak firmly claimed the No. 9 role with 27 goals across all competitions.

Despite a goal-less campaign in 2024/25, Wilson’s overall Premier League record remains solid — 88 goals in 239 appearances. And if anyone knows how to score against West Ham, it’s him. The England international has 12 goals in just 16 games against the Hammers — more than he’s scored against any other club.

Now a free agent, Wilson is reportedly holding talks with the Hammers about a short-term deal. While age and fitness are factors, his experience and eye for goal — particularly against West Ham — could make him a shrewd addition if Potter and the club choose to move forward.
