West Ham’s season seems to be on the up.
After a dreadful start which saw them lose all three of their first three games across all competitions and concede 11 goals, Graham Potter’s side bounced back in style with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Sunday.
And off the pitch, the club also started slow in the transfer market, but things now seem to be gathering pace.
The Hammers finally landed Mateus Fernandes from Southampton — despite relegation, the Portuguese midfielder was the Saints’ standout player last season, showing the kind of tenacity and bite Potter has been crying out for.
Add to that the capture of highly rated 21-year-old Soungoutou Magassa from AS Monaco, and suddenly West Ham’s midfield is starting to look like a proper engine room again.
Now, Potter’s attention has turned to the backline — and a potential defensive reinforcement could arrive on deadline day.
West Ham in Talks for Disasi

According to a new report from the Evening Standard, West Ham have opened talks with Chelsea over a move for French centre-back Axel Disasi as they look to shore up their leaky defence.
The Hammers are set to offload Nayef Aguerd to Marseille in a £20 million deal and want a like-for-like replacement before the window shuts.
Brighton’s Igor Julio had been on the radar, but with the Brazilian set to join Crystal Palace, attention has now turned firmly to Disasi.
The 26-year-old joined Chelsea in 2023 from AS Monaco and has made 61 appearances for the Blues, spending the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa.
During his time in England, Disasi has been a real mixed bag — costly errors one week, commanding masterclasses the next. One of those standout displays, against Manchester City, even saw Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher describe him as “brilliant” and compare him to Chelsea icon John Terry.
With West Ham conceding 11 goals already this season, defensive reinforcements are not just wanted — they’re essential. Whether Disasi turns out to be the error-prone version or the “brilliant” rock at the back could define Potter’s season.
