West Ham have had an offer for Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi rejected, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Hammers are stepping up their efforts to secure a marquee striker signing ahead of the 16/17 season, with a number of big names being linked with a move to Stratford already this summer.
But the reports coming out of Italy claim that Icardi is the latest top-quality striker to have been targeted by Slaven Bilic will have surprised many.
The report claims Inter Milan have rejected West Ham’s offer, which is unknown at this time, and will not listen to any offers below €40m (£32.5m).
The Hammers appear to be alongside some of Europe’s elite clubs in the race for Icardi, with Arsenal and Ateltico Madrid both reportedly interested in signing the 23-year-old Argentina international.
Icardi contributed 16 goals and one assist in 34 first team appearances for Inter Milan last term, and is valued at £24m by Transfermarkt.com.
