West Ham are believed to be in advanced talks to complete the signing of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Carlos Soler this summer, according to a new transfer claim.

The Hammers are still stinging after their 2-1 defeat at home to Aston Villa in the Premier League last Saturday, as Julen Lopetegui’s reign got off to a disappointing start.

There is no need for an overreaction, however, and this could still be an exciting season for West Ham under their new manager.

While new signings have already been made in the summer transfer window, perhaps most notably Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo coming in to bolster Lopetegui’s options at centre-back, more signings could arrive this month.

According to a fresh update from L’Equipe, West Ham are in advanced talks to snap up Soler from PSG in the coming weeks, with an agreement being discussed.

The Ligue 1 giants are demanding €20m (£17.1m) for the Spaniard’s services, with the 27-year-old not out of contract until the summer of 2027.

West Ham’s midfield arguably hasn’t been strong enough since Declan Rice departed for Arsenal last year, and another addition in that area of the pitch feels important, especially with the threat of a ban for Lucas Paqueta looming.

Soler could be an excellent option for the Hammers, having now racked up 63 appearances for PSG, as well as scoring four goals in 14 caps for Spain. Former Valencia player Curru Torres has also praised him in the past, saying:

“He is the complete midfielder and can act as a 6, 8 or 10; he has power, arrives in the box and can score. I know him and I know that he can still bring his game to the next level. He has taken on responsibility in the team too.”

Soler is now an experienced player who could want a new challenge at this point in his career, considering he has not always been a regular for PSG week in, week out, and West Ham could be perfect for him.

He could slot nicely into the midfield, providing strong competition for the likes of Guido Rodriguez, Tomas Soucek, James Ward-Prowse and Paqueta, making Lopetegui’s squad even more formidable.
