West Ham’s need for a new centre-forward has become urgent.

With goals hard to come by, Callum Wilson struggling for fitness and form, and Niclas Füllkrug expected to depart in January, the Hammers are heading into the window knowing that securing a reliable goalscorer is essential for survival.

Nuno Espírito Santo has made a new No.9 his top priority — but one major target may already be slipping away.

West Ham remain interested in Franculino Dju, FC Midtjylland’s explosive young striker who has lit up the Danish Superliga this season.

As previously reported, the Hammers were knocked back after making an informal approach in the summer, but had hoped to revive discussions ahead of the January window.

Dju has been nothing short of outstanding, hitting 19 goals in all competitions, earning a reputation as one of Europe’s most exciting emerging forwards — even being described as “unstoppable” by former Celtic defender Johan Mjällby.

However, the club’s pursuit has taken a hit. Midtjylland boss Mike Tullberg has made it clear he has no intention of allowing the 21-year-old to leave midway through the campaign.

Speaking to Campo, Tullberg said: “I have told the club that I want my players to stay. So I don’t assume anyone will change [clubs].”

He also addressed rumours linking Dju with Bayern Munich, jokingly adding: “There are no FC Midtjylland players who will move to Bayern Munich. They will move to Dortmund, if that is the case!”

For West Ham, the message is blunt: any January move for Dju looks exceedingly unlikely. With their main target seemingly off the table, Nuno may need to shift focus quickly to ensure the club land the striker they desperately need.
