There are times when it is easy to see the divide between optimistic and pessimistic West Ham supporters and what side of the line individuals stand on.
ExWHUEmployee has created one of those moments, with this tweet about the potential signing of Maxi Gómez:
Try to. Not a lot at moment. Still interested, still negotiating but nothing close at moment. Reckon this could drag on for a while https://t.co/NaIWPs3rD5

The suggestion that the deal could be dragged out across the summer transfer window has led to many supporters looking back to scenarios where the same thing has happened with a sense of déjà vu.
The more positive among the fan base point towards the acquisition of Felipe Anderson last summer, whereas the more skeptical focus on efforts to sign the likes of Carlos Bacca and William Carvalho.
Mario Husillos will be working to make this more Anderson than Carvalho though, especially as the striker area is such an important one to build after the departures of Andy Carroll and Lucas Pérez, as well as Javier Hernández’s likely sale, which ExWHUEmployee has reported.
This seems to be a move which the West Ham faithful are hoping will be completed sooner rather than later judging by their responses.
A selection of Twitter reaction to the announcement, including posts from split West Ham fans, can be seen below:
