Former West Ham United striker Tony Cottee caused a debate between many fans over who the best player at the club is.
When speaking with Claret and Hugh, Tony Cottee said this about Manuel Lanzini:
“When you come back you are performing on adrenaline, then there’s a slump of half dozen games before you pick up and show top form again – in Manu’s case I think he is about two games away.”
“Always remember he is our best player – that is for sure.”
But many fans have disagreed with Cottee’s comments, with one fan even going as far to say: “Not even top 10 would sell him to river plate tomorrow”.
Would you agree with Tony Cottee, that Lanzini is West Ham’s best player?
— Hammers Polls (@HammersPolls) October 30, 2019
At the time of writing this article, the poll has 947 votes with 79% of fans disagreeing with Cottee after Twitter account Hammer Polls decided to hold a vote to gauge opinion.
Lanzini is yet to score and has only managed one assist in nine league games this season.
That is particularly disappointing considering that some of his overall play has not been too bad. According to the data compiled by WhoScored, the 26-year-old has managed to make two key passes per game, complete 2.6 dribbles, take an average of 1.2 shots and complete 86.8% of his attempted passes.
However, perhaps, these West Ham fans are right to believe the Argentine is no longer the best player in Manuel Pellegrini’s side, especially with the likes of Felipe Anderson, Sebastien Haller, Andriy Yarmolenko, Lukasz Fabianski, Declan Rice and Issa Diop all potentially involved in the conversation.

the best players are those that perform week in week out…I think really that is Fab and Deccers, all the others are to inconsistent.

Yarmo at the moment is our best player I would say.
If Haller gets the support he will make everyone around him look amazing as the spaces he creates will mean those playing around him will be picking up assists & goals for fun
