West Ham United are in the market for at least one new striker this summer.

With Andy Carroll’s injury problems, Diafra Sakho’s attitude problems and Jonathan Calleri’s ineffectiveness, West Ham have been crying out for a top striker all year.

According to Sky Sports News HQ, West Ham could swoop for Jermain Defoe this summer.

The England international is an experienced goal scorer in the top flight and has been one of Sunderland’s best performers over the past two seasons.

But with the Black Cats now relegated, Defoe is keen to move on with West Ham and Bournemouth leading the chase.

The 34-year-old was, of course, previously at West Ham before leaving for Tottenham in 2004.

This season, the veteran forward has netted 14 Premier League goals – more than any West Ham player has managed.

West Ham are not the only club in for Defoe but would also be looking to add another striker as well as their former academy product.

Bournemouth are also chasing a reunion with Defoe after he had a loan spell with the Cherries in the early 2000s.

West Ham fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on our interest in Defoe and here are some of the best.
