Back in the summer it was looking increasingly likely that James Collins would be leaving the club for a second time.
But instead he opted to remain in east London to fight for his place in the team, clearly in the belief that he’s still good enough to compete at the highest level.
And he was right, because his performances recently have led to the club offering him an extended two year contract.
And it couldn’t be more deserved. Collins has been as solid as a rock at the back this season and his form has given the likes of Angelo Ogbonna and Winston Reid something to think about – it’s welcome competition for places.
And the fans are absolutely delighted that Collins will be staying with the club for at least another two years.
Here’s how the reacted to the news on Twitter…

Ginge could’ve left in the summer, but he chose to stay and fight for his place. Now he’s earned himself a new deal. What a guy. #COYI
