The arrival of Alex Song just before the end of the summer transfer window surprised everyone.
What was a Barcelona player doing signing for West Ham when there was clear interest for his services from a number of clubs competing in the Champions League?
But he’s here, he’s been our captain for the last couple of days and, to put it simply, he’s been immense. Head and shoulders above everyone else on the pitch most of the time. His performance against Liverpool was one we haven’t seen from a West Ham for years, whilst the way he ran the midfield against QPR really showed his quality.
So it’s clear that we’ve arguably got the best player to have pulled on the famous claret and blue since Carlos Tevez, and we really need to try and keep him at the club as we head closer to moving to the Olympic Stadium.
And David Gold has confirmed on Twitter that he’s hoping he can strike a deal to ensure Song stays in East London beyond next May and can be a player we build a team around on our first steps towards a new and exciting era in the club’s history.
Wether we keep him or not will no doubt depend on how successful we are this season, but he’s obviously loving life at the club so far…
@ironviews @dhautzig Alex Song is an outstanding player and a great character I would love to sign him permanently. dg
