West Ham are interested in signing Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko, according to calciomercato.com.

The report claims AC Milan are the main club interested in the 26-year-old ahead of the summer, but also name West Ham as another suitor.

Sissoko has struggled for form this season, but he previous been an influential figure in an otherwise underperforming and disappointing Newcastle side since he arrived from Toulouse in January 2013.

The France international can play in central midfield, attacking midfield or on the right wing and would be an impressive addition to what is already a pretty strong and combative West Ham midfield.

The report from calciomercato.com claim AC Milan’s attempts to sign him in January were thwarted after they refused to pay Newcastle’s £15m asking price, but they are expected to return for him in the summer.

Should Newcastle fail to survive their current relegation battle you would assume they’d be forced to accept an offer far less than £15m, and given AC Milan’s recent plight from Serie A giants to just about battling for a top six finish, we would arguably stand a good chance of winning the race for his signature this summer.

Since signing for Newcastle Sissoko has made 129 first team appearances, scoring 12 goals and providing 17 assists.
