West Ham eye late deal for Roma’s Maxime Gonalons

West Ham continue to eye new additions in the transfer market and midfield reinforcements are Manuel Pellegrini’s priority.

The Hammers are understood to be closing in on a deal to sign 32-year-old Carlos Sanchez from Fiorentina but could complete another addition in this area.

Italian outlet CalcioMercato state West Ham have put an offer of around €10m on the table for Roma’s Maxime Gonalons and are ready to push a deal through if Pedro Obiang leaves.

Obiang has been widely linked with an exit throughout the summer and Gonalons is lined-up as his replacement, with the experienced midfielder said to be considering his future.

However, it is added the 29-year-old France international would prefer to return to Ligue 1 in order to be closer to his family – although no French clubs are said to be in to offer a ‘dream’ move to the veteran.

Capped eight times by France, the holding midfielder would provide a boost to a Hammers midfield which looks to be lacking options heading into the start of the season.
