West Ham have been handed an enormous boost regarding key midfielder Lucas Paqueta, who is set to be available to play next season.

The Brazilian has been a joy to watch in a Hammers shirt, not only providing South American flair but also an invaluable work ethic, becoming one of the most influential players at the club.

West Ham have been left toiling with the news that Paqueta faces a lengthy ban from football, however, following betting offences.

For that reason, the 26-year-old’s future at the London Stadium has been very much up in the air, but now a significant update has emerged regarding the situation

According to a report from The Times on Wednesday afternoon, Paqueta will be available for selection next season, with the complexity of the case making it too difficult to come to a verdict in time for the 2024/25 campaign.

It is stated that the Brazil international is still “facing a ban that could stretch to many years after being charged by the FA with four separate instances of spot-fixing”, though, in what is described as “one of the most serious cases involving a top-flight player in England.”

The outcome of Paqueta’s case “could be delayed until close to the end of the season, or potentially beyond”, which is why he can play in the upcoming campaign.

This is clearly great news for West Ham, even if it only means in the short-term, giving Hammers supporters another opportunity to see the classy South America light up the London Stadium.

Emerson Palmieri is well aware of the ability that his friend possesses, saying of him last September:

“Paqueta’s always happy! He’s a player who creates a lot, but also works very hard for us in defence. His positional awareness is second to none. I had the pleasure of playing with him in Lyon too.”

The hope is that Paqueta still manages to remain focused, considering the potential pressure on his shoulders with the threat of a big ban still clearly on his mind, and West Ham should enjoy him for as long as he is in east London.
