Crysencio Summerville has become the name on everyone’s lips at West Ham United in recent months.

The drama surrounding Summerville intensified recently when he was forced off with an injury during West Ham’s FA Cup clash against Brentford. Early fears suggested the winger could face another lengthy spell on the sidelines, something the club could ill afford during such a crucial stage of the season.

However, fresh updates suggest the situation may not be as bad as first feared.

West Ham have received a potentially encouraging update regarding Summerville’s injury after initial concerns about how long he might be sidelined.

There were early fears the winger had suffered a recurrence of the hamstring issue that required surgery last year and kept him out for a significant period. However, the club later clarified that Summerville had instead picked up a new calf injury.

A senior West Ham source previously indicated that the Dutch forward would almost certainly miss upcoming matches against Manchester City and Aston Villa, meaning a return would likely come after the upcoming international break.

Yet the situation may now be evolving, raising hopes he could be back sooner than expected.

Summerville Pushing for Early Return

Journalist Jacob Steinberg suggested there remains a small possibility that Summerville could recover earlier than originally predicted.

“The likeliest scenario is Summerville returns after international break – presumably the Leeds cup game – but there’s a very slim chance he recovers in time for Villa next weekend,” he said.

“A blow for him as he was going to be in the Netherlands squad.”

Meanwhile, The Athletic’s West Ham correspondent Roshane Thomas revealed that Summerville himself is pushing to return as soon as possible, with the winger hopeful of being fit for the trip to Villa Park.

For West Ham, the sooner Summerville is back the better. With the club still fighting to avoid relegation, his pace, creativity and goals could prove crucial in the final stretch of the season.
