West Ham’s search to find a new central midfielder has raised the possibility of a bargain swoop being secured in the transfer market.

Fan site Knees Up Mother Brown state the Hammers are considering making a swoop for Sporting Lisbon ace Bruno Fernandes, who could be one of many players leaving the Portuguese side for nothing.

23-year-old Fernandes, currently starring for Portugal at the World Cup, only moved to Sporting last summer for a €8.5m fee from Sampdoria but could be on the move once again.

Sporting have endured a shambolic season and a shocking incident earlier this year saw a group of supporters attack the club’s players at training, leading a number of the squad to cite just cause and cancel their contracts at the club.

Goalkeeper Rui Patricio has already completed a move to newly-promoted Wolves, while it is reported that the likes of Fernandes, Gelson Martins and Bas Dost could also push through an exit.
