West Ham have admitted that ‘one of the most promising young strikers in England’ is close to signing for the Hammers.

The club’s controversial ‘insider’ column revealed this afternoon that it can be confirmed that a striker is to undergo a medial ahead of a completed move in the near future.

It is not yet known who the player could be, though the Hammers have been linked with a plethora of strikers already this summer.

The statement read: “My sources have confirmed to me that one of the most promising young strikers in England is set to undergo a medical with the Club and a deal could be finalised in the near future.”

The club have made it no secret that a marquee striker signing is at the top of their priority list this summer as they prepare to begin a new era at the London Stadium in Stratford.

Reports from MirrorFootball earlier this month claimed West Ham had been offered a swap deal involving Saido Berahino and Diafra Sakho by West Brom, but the club’s official report today does not mention anything involving a West Ham player going the other way.

Berahino is the first name that pops to your head when the the line ‘promising young striker’ is mentioned, though there have been no reports hinting at the club’s interest in him since the Mirror’s report earlier in June.

The club also admitted they have missed out on Marseille’s Michy Batshuayi, who has reportedly chosen to join Chelsea instead.
