West Ham United are edging closer to completing the signing of William Carvalho, Sky Sports News are reporting.
According to Sky sources, Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho is flying to London today as this deal moves swiftly towards completion.
West Ham are reportedly in advanced talks to get this deal done and the rumoured transfer fee is believed to be an initial £30m payment with bonuses added on.
The Hammers upped their bid after seeing their £27m offer knocked back.
The 25-year-old has been omitted from the Sporting Lisbon squad to face Steaua Bucharest in the Champions League qualifiers as this deal progresses.
With 137 Sporting CP appearances to his name and 37 international caps for Portugal under his belt, Carvalho is the perfect blend of youth and experience.
William Carvalho is widely regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe and has previously been targeted by some big clubs.
This deal would be a major coup for the Hammers and he would add some genuine quality to the central midfield department.
Mark Noble, Pedro Obiang, Edimilson Fernandes and Cheikhou Kouyate are the current options in the middle of the park as well as Josh Cullen, who is on loan in the Championship until January.
