West Ham are now favourites to sign Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher on loan until the end of the season.

The London Evening Standard are reporting that the Hammers have beaten West Brom and Valencia to the signing of Fletcher and he’s close to joining the club until the end of the season.

It’s not yet known whether Fletcher is being signed as cover for the likes of Cheikhou Kouyate or whether he will replace the largely disappointing Kevin Nolan in midfield.

Another possibility is the option to make the loan move permanent in the summer should Alex Song decide against making his loan move from Barcelona permanent at the end of the season.

Either way, West Ham fans seem genuinely pleased with the addition, noting that he will be good for the youngsters in the squad like Diego Poyet.

Man United fans aren’t too bothered about seeing the back of him, although a couple think it’s a bad idea to send him to us as they see us as genuine top four rivals this season. I literally never thought I’d live to see the day United see us as top four rivals…
