West Ham United defender Reece Burke has confirmed that he will stay with the East London club for pre-season training rather than head out on loan.

In a video interview posted on West Ham United’s official website, the promising young defender revealed that he was set to head out on loan but he has instead been given a chance to impress Slaven Bilic in pre-season.

Burke has spent the entirety of the last two seasons out on loan after playing a handful of Premier League games towards the end of the 2014/15 season.

In 2015/16, he enjoyed a profitable loan spell with League One side Bradford City, where he swept the board at the end of season player awards including winning the Player of the Year accolade.

Last season was more frustrating for young Reece Burke as his progress was hampered by injuries during his time with Wigan Athletic in the Championship.

The 20-year-old has revealed that he was “buzzing” to be given the opportunity to train with the first team in pre-season despite widespread media reports believing that he was set to join Bolton Wanderers on loan.

The England under-20 international is a towering centre-half and a local boy who has expressed his desire to learn from the experienced defenders in the West Ham ranks this summer.
