West Ham United are facing a defensive crisis this season. The Hammers have conceded 41 goals in 20 Premier League matches, the worst defensive record in the division — even worse than bottom-placed Wolves, who thrashed them 3-0 at the weekend.

Defensive issues have been compounded by a shaky goalkeeper situation.

Summer signing Mads Hermansen and Alphonse Areola have both struggled to inspire confidence, leaving Nuno Espírito Santo in urgent need of reinforcements between the posts.

With relegation looming, finding a reliable shot-stopper has become a priority — and one potential solution could now be on the horizon.

West Ham have reportedly submitted a bid to sign Brazilian goalkeeper Bento from Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 26-year-old joined the Saudi side from Athletico Paranaense in July 2024 and has since made 59 appearances in all competitions. Bento has also earned six caps for Brazil, making his international debut against England in 2024.

The reported deal would see Bento arrive on loan with a £10 million option to buy, giving West Ham a chance to assess the goalkeeper before committing fully.

The move comes after the club spent £20 million on Hermansen last summer, highlighting just how crucial Nuno sees an upgrade in goal.

With West Ham struggling to keep clean sheets and the Premier League relegation battle intensifying, Bento could provide the experience and shot-stopping ability they desperately need.
