West Ham confirmed the capture of Leeds United youngster Sam Byram today after gazzumping Everton at the last minute to secure his signature.
West Ham had been looking to signing Byram in the summer on a free transfer, but Everton’s interest in the 22-year-old forced the club’s hand and we went and got our man for a reported £3.7m fee.
It means that we’ve now got two of the country’s most promising full-backs and they cost around £7.5m combined, which is incredible business just goes to show how much our recruitment process has improved over the past few years.
But one thing that stands out about this deal is that both sets of fans – West Ham and Everton – have been at logger-heads over it.
So much so that as soon as the deal was officially announced by the club West Ham fans went out of their way to laugh at Everton, which didn’t go down too well with the Toffees fans.
