Ross Barkley is an unlikely target for West Ham United, according to The Daily Star.

The Daily Star are exclusively reporting that West Ham are one of six Premier League sides chasing Everton’s Ross Barkley.

Ross Barkley has refused to pen a new deal with Everton and the Toffees look set to cash in on him this summer.

Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur lead the race for the England international as the pursuit hots up.

As well as Manchester City and Spurs, the other three clubs in the top five want Ross Barkley.

Premier League champions Chelsea, fifth place Arsenal and sixth place Manchester United are all interested in the 23-year-old too.

However, West Ham are also mentioned as an outside shot.

The Hammers, who are enjoying a successful summer transfer window, could eye a move for the contract rebel.

It would certainly be an audacious swoop by West Ham, who finished four places below Everton in the league last season.

However, the recent captures of Marko Arnautovic, Joe Hart and Javier Hernandez could start convincing players that West Ham are an ambitious club who are aiming for big things.

Barkley is likely to leave this summer with Spurs and Man City being the current front runners for his signature.
