With the Premier League season over and West Ham United wrapping up an 11th place finish, the focus will now be on the summer transfer window.

Plenty of names have already been linked with moves to West Ham and another name has just popped up.

The Daily Mail is reporting that West Ham United are interesting in pursuing a summer move for Everton midfielder James McCarthy.

McCarthy became infamous among West Ham fans last season when his reckless tackle on Dimitri Payet ruled the star Frenchman out with an injury for a while.

But now the Hammers want to bring him to East London, according to these reports.

West Ham face competition from newly promoted Newcastle United – who have had McCarthy on their radar for quite some time now – and Crystal Palace.

The Republic of Ireland international will be available for transfer this summer after falling behind the likes of Morgan Schneiderlin, Idrissa Gueye and Tom Davies in the pecking order at Everton.

Ronald Koeman will sanction a permanent move away from Goodison Park for the defensive midfielder if a suitor matches his £20m price tag.

West Ham moving for the 26-year-old would be strange considering the options in midfield: Mark Noble, Pedro Obiang, Cheikhou Kouyate, Edimilson Fernandes, Josh Cullen and Havard Nordtveit.
