West Ham have wasted little time getting to work in the January window.

Just days after the market opened, the Hammers are closing in on two new strikers following Niclas Füllkrug’s loan move to AC Milan, with Brazilian forward Pablo arriving from Gil Vicente and Lazio’s Taty Castellanos also set to bolster Nuno Espírito Santo’s attacking options.

While incomings are the priority as West Ham fight relegation, another deal has now been lined up — this time involving a departure.

West Ham have reached an agreement to sell Luis Guilherme to Sporting Lisbon, with the 19-year-old set for a fresh start in Portugal.

According to Sky Sports journalist Chris Reidy, a deal worth around €20 million (£17.5m) has been agreed, and the transfer is expected to be completed shortly. The move will allow Guilherme to finally secure regular first-team football after a frustrating spell in east London.

The Brazilian winger arrived from Palmeiras in 2024 with huge expectations, having been labelled a top prospect in South America. Then-manager Julen Lopetegui described him as a “humble” young player who would “become a very good player for the Premier League”.

That promise, however, never translated into opportunities. Guilherme made just 18 appearances for West Ham, only one of them a start, and failed to register a goal. A consistent run of games never materialised, leaving his development stalled.

For Guilherme, the move to Sporting offers a chance to reboot his career in a league known for nurturing young talent. For West Ham, it marks another early exit that underlines the club’s recent recruitment struggles — and a sobering end to a brief, puzzling chapter for a player once tipped to become a star.
