West Ham’s recent upturn in form has given fans hope amid a difficult season.

Back-to-back Premier League victories over Tottenham and Sunderland have shown that survival might still be within reach, even with the club lingering in 18th place.

January additions Taty Castellanos, Pablo Felipe, and Adama Traoré have already made an impact, bolstering the squad for the second half of the campaign.

However, the Hammers are now set to face the remainder of the season without one of their key figures.

West Ham United have agreed a €41 million (£35.5m) deal to sell Brazilian midfielder Lucas Paquetá to Flamengo.

According to BBC Sport, the 28-year-old, who arrived from Lyon in 2022, will travel to Brazil to complete the transfer ahead of the winter deadline on 2 February.

Initially, West Ham were open to a deal that would have seen Paquetá remain at the London Stadium on loan for the rest of the season. Flamengo, though, pushed for a full move this month, ensuring he will join the Brazilian top flight in March.

Paquetá, who has been described as “irreplaceable” by Nuno Espirito Santo, has contributed five goals this season and has been one of West Ham’s standout performers when available.

The Hammers have already managed three consecutive wins without him, but his departure represents a significant blow to their midfield creativity and attacking threat.

Losing Paquetá mid-season is a major setback, and while Nuno’s side have shown promise in recent weeks, the Brazilian’s absence could prove costly as West Ham continue their fight to avoid relegation.
