West Ham’s start to the 2025/26 season has been nothing short of a nightmare. A 3-0 hammering at Sunderland on opening day, followed by a 5-1 drubbing at the hands of London rivals Chelsea at the London Stadium, left fans questioning what on earth was happening.

Add in shaky displays from new goalkeeper Mads Hermansen and the departures of key contributors Mohamed Kudus and Edson Álvarez, and Graham Potter’s side has looked worryingly short in quality, depth, and confidence.

With just days left of the summer transfer window, the clock is ticking – but at least there’s a glimmer of hope.

West Ham Agree Soungoutou Magassa Deal

West Ham have reportedly agreed a deal to bring AS Monaco midfielder Soungoutou Magassa to the London Stadium.

According to journalist Santi Aouna, the fee stands at €17 million, with an additional €3 million in potential performance-based add-ons. Monaco will also benefit from a 10% sell-on clause in any future transfer.

The 21-year-old has been widely praised in France, with Monaco captain and former Chelsea star Denis Zakaria calling him “incredible.” Known for his versatility, Magassa can operate both in central midfield and in central defense, offering Potter tactical flexibility.

The midfielder has given his personal approval for the move, convinced by West Ham’s project and the allure of Premier League football. Travel plans and a medical are being arranged, with the deal expected to be completed once formalities are in place.

For the Hammers, Magassa could be a timely addition in a summer that has so far seen far too many holes exposed.

Whether he can hit the ground running remains to be seen, but at least Potter now has another weapon in the engine room.
