Kurt Zouma appears to have settled into east London life quickly.
The France international, signed from Chelsea for £29.8m in August, has only featured twice for the Hammers so far this season, but has already lifted the quality of David Moyes’ back line by a few levels at least.
Having made his debut in the historic 2-0 victory over Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia last week, Zouma made his home debut in the Premier League against Manchester United on Sunday.
He put in a very impressive performance, as did the rest of the team, as Moyes’ side battled to a narrow 2-1 defeat.
The centre-back is already looking like a very shrewd addition to the squad as Moyes attempts to repeat the triumphs of 2020/2021 by making West Ham strong enough to compete for another top-six Premier League finish.
And he’s already warming himself to the Hammers faithful, too, taking to Instagram after the Man United defeat to address supporters by saying: “We were very unlucky today but so happy to have made my debut in this beautiful stadium. We keep working.”
Teammates Declan Rice and Angelo Ogbonna both commented with “rock solid” while fans replied with comments like “unreal,” “brilliant” and “great performance.”
It’s been a strong start to Zouma’s West Ham career and we can have no doubt that he’s going to be an important component of this squad as we look to build on what David Moyes’ progress since returning to the club.
