West Ham United are ready to launch a hefty bid for Swansea City defender Alfie Mawson, according to recent reports.

The Sun is reporting that West Ham are readying a £25m offer for Mawson in a deal which will also see Andre Ayew go to Swansea.

Swansea are desperate to keep their star defender and do not want to sell to a Premier League rival but West Ham are hoping that a bid of £25m, Andre Ayew and a number of add-ons will tempt them into lowering their £40m asking price.

The Hammers are also prepared to quadruple the 23-year-old’s wages, which are currently £15,000 per week, in an attempt to get him to force a move.

But West Ham face competition from Watford for the former England under-21 international, according to Sky Sports News.

Watford are also chasing reinforcements in this window but West Ham will be hoping that their big offer fends off any other interest.

Centre back is one of David Moyes’ priorities this January, especially with Jose Fonte out with a long term injury.

Mawson appears to be the Irons’ top target and a £25m deal could be struck with Ayew heading back to his former club in exchange.
