West Ham are reportedly working on a deal to sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Carlos Soler before the summer transfer window ends.

Time is running out for the Hammers to make further additions this summer, with the window slamming shut on Friday night.

Even if West Ham don’t bring in further reinforcements for Julen Lopetegui, it has still been a productive few months, with Max Kilman, Jean-Clair Todibo and Niclas Fullkrug all joining, among others.

Another player who has been linked with a summer switch to the London Stadium is Soler, with a report earlier in the month claiming that talks were at an advanced stage.

The Spaniard is still yet to exit PSG, but is searching for more regular minutes elsewhere, and journalist Fabrizio Romano has told Give Me Sport that he is “pushing” to join West Ham in the coming days:

“The player wants to go to West Ham, it’s about the director who is pushing, it’s about the manager, who is Spanish, Lopetegui. So this could also be an important factor.

“So talks are taking place, and I think before the end of the window, West Ham can go strong on this deal to get it done.”

Soler could be such an ideal option for West Ham before deadline day ends, adding depth to the midfield, with Declan Rice still arguably not fully replaced since leaving for Arsenal last summer.

The 27-year-old is still young enough to be an important member of Lopetegui’s midfield for the foreseeable future, while former coach Xavi Tamarit once said of him:

“He was playing everywhere from the midfield to the attack, and was a very good dribbler and shooter. He would break free from his marker, look for the ball and was very fast and powerful.

“He was always very alert to everything and absorbed everything he could,” says the former Prebenjamin coach, who still has a vivid recollection of one anecdote in particular.”

The fact that Soler also wants to join West Ham can only bode well, too, so the hope is that a deal is stuck by Friday evening’s cutoff, sealing another exciting piece of business in the process.
