Dimitri Payet scored some superb goals for West Ham; that and his technical brilliance is why he is still spoken about so much today.
It’s been four years since he signed for West Ham, which unbeknown to many at the time was the start of a relationship that would bring incredible highs, before ending unceremoniously.
Though despite the bitter end, on the day of the anniversary, West Ham tweeted about the goals he scored for the club:
Pure brilliance.
Your favourite Payet goal in Claret & Blue?— West Ham United (@WestHamUtd) June 26, 2019
The West Ham media team asked which one of the Frenchman’s goals in claret and blue was the fans’ favourite, which was always going to bring discussion, as there are so many to choose from.
There are different aspects of a goal which can make it so memorable: the build up, the finish, the occasion or simply how it made an individual feel.
Across Payet’s repertoire of goals in claret and blue, each of the aforementioned factors will have been covered in a variety of his efforts.
Whether that be the mazy run for his goal against Middlesbrough, his dipping strike against Crystal Palace, the FA Cup goal against Manchester United or the smugness of seeing him dink the ball over Wayne Hennessey.
A selection of Twitter reaction to the video, including West Ham fans’ picks for their favourite Payet goal, can be seen below:

Crystal Palace away, I’ve never been more certain a West ham player was going to score. Running through on goal, I remember celebrating the moment it left his foot and delicately dropped into the net. @HatcherNick @darrenammar best away day ever?

I still don’t understand how this went in, it looks like he skys it until it actually went in pic.twitter.com/8OiIIS88MJ

The Man U cup game away, all day long. I was sat in the upper tier behind the goal and the celebrations when that went in were amazing. pic.twitter.com/OsnOQNGJua

Middlesbrough at home. That determination to get around umpteen defenders was something special

That goal against Boro when he went round at least 4 players and started from the touchline, how did that not win Goal of the season ?
