Every club has a player who splits opinions amongst fans, and West Ham have had a fair share of those players over the years.

Carlton Cole has been the one player over the last six or seven season that has really had fans arguing over what he can or cannot bring to the side. Some believe he holds the ball up perfectly and offers another attacking option up front, others can’t see what all the fuss is about and think he “can’t hit barn door with a banjo,” which his record or just 59 goals in 237 appearances in all competitions for West Ham goes a long way in backing up.

So when he and the club announced his return on a short-term deal earlier this week, fans took to Twitter to give their thoughts on what neutrals might see as an embarrassing signing on West Ham’s part, particularly after their poor showing in the summer transfer window on the striker front.

As expected, the opinions differed from overwhelmingly delighted and ridiculously annoyed that they had to put up with at least another three-months of Cole at Upton Park.

Here’s some of the best (and worst) tweets:

And Cole took to Twitter last night to give his own thoughts, aiming a cryptic type message to his ‘haters.’ Good man.

What are your thought’s on Cole’s return to West Ham? Happy he’s back, or is it a poor decision from the club? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
