Given the season we’re having, a 0-0 draw away to Chelsea is pretty much as good as all three points at White Hart Lane.
In recent weeks in particular, we have been letting in goals for fun and have been humiliated on a number of occasions, rarely putting up much of a fight in the process.
But our performance at Stamford Bridge last night proved that we are more than capable of shutting out the opposition, even if it means “parking the bus.”
Adrian had another impressive game in between the sticks, while Matty Taylor and Mark Noble continued to impress with another brilliant shift in midfield. James Collins put his body on the line on a number of occasions, showing us all that there really is some fight and passion left in a side battling against the drop.
As the game went on Chelsea got stronger and looked like scoring. They had 39 efforts on goal compared to our one, which shows you how one-sided the game was but, despite Jose Mourinho complaining about Sam Allardyce’s tactics, you just have to give credit to the players for digging deep and giving everything to prevent title-chasers Chelsea from scoring.
And, as usual, Twitter was exploding with Hammers fans who were both astounded and delighted to see the boys hold on for what could be a huge point in the race for Premier League survival.
Here’s how Twitter reported on the game from about the 60th minute onwards. Oh, and keep an eye out for the YouTube video towards the end because, if you haven’t yet seen the post-match press conferences, it’s an absolute gem from Sam Allardyce….
