West Ham’s nightmare campaign threatens to take another brutal turn.

Stuck in the relegation zone, winless in weeks and already reshaping their squad in desperation this January, the Hammers are fighting just to stay afloat.

Now, with pressure mounting on and off the pitch, they could be facing the loss of one of their standout talents.

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly launched a surprise move for West Ham playmaker Lucas Paquetá, tabling a bid worth around £26 million.

According to reports emerging from South America, Spurs have made an official approach for the Brazilian international, who has been labelled “spectacular” by journalist Thomas Alencar.

With Paquetá under contract until 2027, West Ham are not under immediate pressure to sell — but relegation fears could change the equation quickly.

Brazilian outlet Torcida Flamengo claim Tottenham have now “emerged as a strong competitor” for the attacking midfielder, who earns around £150,000 per week. However, Spurs are not alone in the race.

Flamengo, Paquetá’s boyhood club, are also pushing hard to bring him back to Brazil. The midfielder came through their academy and is said to be seriously tempted by a return to Rio, with reports suggesting that a homecoming is currently his preferred option.

While the Brazilian giants cannot yet match Tottenham’s financial firepower, they are confident Paquetá’s desire to return could tip the balance. Flamengo are working on a proposal designed to satisfy West Ham while leaning heavily on the player’s personal wishes.

From Tottenham’s perspective, Paquetá fits the profile perfectly — a creative, technically gifted midfielder capable of unlocking defences and adding flair in the final third.

For West Ham, though, losing a player of his calibre mid-relegation fight would be another hammer blow in a season that continues to spiral.
