The Premier League era has seen a flurry of excellent goals scored by West Ham United players over its 28-year history.
From Trevor Sinclair to Dimitri Payet, supporters have witnessed some magnificent efforts scored over the years.
Therefore we take a look at some of West Ham’s best-ever goals in the Premier League.
Counting down the top five strikes, take a look at who might be at number one…
5. Anton Ferdinand v Fulham (2006)
Not known for scoring many goals but Anton Ferdinand’s strike against Fulham in January 2006, when he won Premier League Player of the Month, took many by surprise.
After the ball fell to him in the air just outside the box, the defender volleyed a tremendous strike which rocketed straight into the top left corner of the goal – one he will never forget.
4. Dimitri Payet v Middlesborough (2016)
Although unpopular amongst most West Ham fans for the way that he handled his exit from the club, Dimitri Payet gave supporters many exciting memories from the goals that he scored.
One particular wonder strike came against Middlesbrough. Payet equalized by turning brilliantly from his marker, past four more defenders and slotted it home to send the crowd crazy.
3. Carlos Tevez v Manchester United (2007)
One of West Ham’s most memorable goals in recent memory came from the sensational Carlos Tevez who was arguably one of the best signings the Hammers have ever made.
Tevez scored six goals and won seven games in his last nine that season, with his last one against Manchester United taken spectacularly as he slotted it past the keeper to help West Ham stay in the Premier League and complete their great escape.
2. Dimitri Payet v Crystal Palace (2016)
It shows how good of a player Payet was when two of his goals make the top five best ever Premier League strikes for West Ham.
This one was even better. A free-kick against Crystal Palace was sensationally placed into the top right corner, curling over a seven-man wall and leaving the goalkeeper no chance of saving it – it was inch-perfect.
1. Paolo Di Canio v Wimbeldon (2000)
Finally, West Ham’s best-ever goal of the Premier League era comes from none other than Paolo Di Canio.
Emphatically scoring one of the best Premier League goals of all time, let alone just West Ham’s, the much-loved Italian spectacularly floated in the air to volley home Trevor Sinclair’s cross against Wimbledon – as the Boleyn Ground erupted in celebrations.
Notable mentions:
- Andy Carroll v Crystal Palace (2017)
- Trevor Sinclair v Derby (2001)
- Julian Dicks v Man City (1996)
- Enner Valencia v Hull City (2014)
