Since West Ham’s owners took over in January 2010, supporters have witnessed many, many unsuccessful signings sanctioned by the board.

But with that have also come some gems that have gone on to become household names around the club.

Now the club have a new part-owner in Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky, who completed a deal last week that saw him buy a 27% stake of West Ham. This could mark the beginning of the end of the GSB reign.

With this in mind, we take a look at the top 10 best players to have played for the Hammers during the GSB era…

10. Kevin Nolan

Now occupying the role of David Moyes’ right-hand man, fans can’t forget the type of player he was for the club beforehand.

The former captain played a pivotal role in helping the club get back into the Premier League in his first season and spent four more years with the Hammers, blessing supporters with his famous ‘chicken’ celebration.

9. Alex Song

Many were surprised when the former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder arrived in east London on loan after two years with the then Spanish champions.

Song was instrumental in midfield under Sam Allardyce and was unplayable at times to help West Ham become an established Premier League side once again.

8. Carlton Cole

West Ham’s cult hero Carlton Cole no doubt makes this list for his commitment to the club and scoring ability on the pitch – most of the time, anyway.

Sixty-seven goals and 33 assists in 293 appearances is a much better record than most of the strikers during GSB’s reign, and his nine-year spell with the Hammers will never be forgotten.

7. Winston Reid

Although recently released by the club, Winston Reid will forever be a West Ham hero and led the team’s defensive backline for many years before his unfortunate knee injury.

Reid arguably scored one of the most important goals ever for the Hammers – the final ever goal at Upton Park to win the game 3-2 against Man United.

6.  Marko Arnautovic

Arnautovic is a player that you either love or hate, and he was loved by most Hammers fans during his time with the club.

The forward was prolific for West Ham up top, scoring 22 goals and assisting 12 times in just two seasons – marking himself as a top Premier League talent before he left for China.

5. Michail Antonio

Michail Antonio is a fan favourite  and is in the form of his life right now. He already has seven goals and four assists in 14 appearances this season.

On top of that, however, he has transformed from being a winger and a right back to becoming the club’s all-time top Premier League goalscorer, which is quite an achievement for the 31-year-old.

4. Mark Noble

At number four is club legend and Mr. West Ham Mark Noble, who could simply not be ignored just for his leadership, loyalty and service to the Hammers.

Coming through the youth ranks, Noble is in his 17th season with the club and has consistently been one of our most important players throughout the years – especially during the 2015/16 season, our final campaign at Upton Park.

3. Scott Parker

Another club legend, despite leaving for Spurs, is Scott Parker who has easily been one of the best footballers to play for West Ham.

Spending four years at the club, the England international crossed over the GSB reign in the 2010/11 season.

He shone above others in a season that saw the club relegated from the top flight, and he still won Football Writers Player of the Year.

2. Declan Rice

West Ham’s second-best ever player under GSB’s reign, and has the potential to eventually become the best, is Declan Rice.

The current on-field captain is a generational English talent, who has been the heartbeat of the team’s successes over the past two seasons.

He is unplayable at times, integral to the team and shows world-class characteristics on the pitch, bearing in mind he is still only 22-years-old.

1. Dimitri Payet

At the top spot, West Ham’s best-ever player under GSB has to be Dimitri Payet. Despite his flaws and unpopularity with supporters, no-one can underestimate the ability he showed on the pitch.

Arguably he was one of the top 10 players in the world during his time in east London, making 38 goal contributions in just 60 appearances, and he gave fans moments that they will never forget (just from his free-kicks alone).

Notable mentions:

  • Manuel Lanzini
  • Demba Ba
  • Andy Carroll
  • Aaron Cresswell
  • Stewart Downing
