It’s that time of the season when we’re linked with players no one has ever heard of and just a poor-quality YouTube compilation to go by for judging whether they’re going to be any good or not.

After what became something of a shambles in the summer, the club’s transfer policy will need to be back on form if we’re going to safely climb away from the drop zone and achieve our goal of a second successive top-ten Premier League finish.

Strikers are top of the agenda for Big Sam, and there are loads to choose from. Of course, transfer and wage budgets are going to be a problem, but there are going to be a number of steals to be had over the winter, not to mention the loan deals that could be done.

Below is a slide show of the ten strikers I think Allardyce should be looking at ahead of the window opening on January 1st. They’re not in any order of preference, just ten players that I think could fill the void left by Andy Carroll – and could potentially support him once he’s fit – during our current “crisis in front of goal.”

  1. My personal preference would be Defoe (judas bastard) and Ba! But I fear this is going to be just wishful thinking as Ba appears to favour Europe and didn’t exactly leave the Hammers on the best of terms! The same could be said for Defoe with similar bad feelings set to scupper his proposed return as well. I also get the feeling that it is our precarious position that has most irons fans favouring the hated ones return rather than love for the player! Being more realistic the best we can hope for is probably Dempsey on a short term deal. Just hope it doesn’t turn out like the signing of that useless bas$%d Keane! Who missed more sitters and open goals than a one legged blind man! Disaster!!! That finnbogsson looks a talent for the future but we need somebody now so that appears to sort that one out! But what will make things really interesting is that although we are apparently hampered by fair play rules our current league position and the desperate need to remain in the prem ahead of our move to the OS, might mean we have to go for broke and pull out all the stops and sign a top quality striker! Oh well! We can dream can’t we?! COYI!

  2. As a Portland Timbers and West Ham supporter, I would rather not see my MLS rival’s new signing on loan at my Premier League Club

  3. Virtually all of them, even the obscure ones, are out of our financial reach unfortunately (and yes, that includes loan deals!).

  4. It’d be good for Dempsey, he needs to regain confidence, but he’s a class player. Would do well to replace Kevin Nolan as a starter or impact sub.

  5. Ola Toivonen would be eaten alive by PL-centre halfs. Soft as butter. Would sulk after 2 games.
